Web graphics should always be optmized for web use. This allows for the graphics to be loaded much faster than just traditional non optimized photos. Ussualy i will take anything that i have created and make it into a Jpeg with a setting of 30-50. This allows the photo be loaded in only 1 to 1.5 seconds and it still looks almost as good as it did before.
When you optimize a photo for web you are taking away some of the quality because you are finding likenesses in color and grouping those colors together to save space when you save the photo. That is why the graphics when optimized for web lose some of their value ybut gain a tremendous boost in load speed.
This is very important because the role that web graphics have is also tremendous. People look at web pages today and they want something that is engaging yet simple and quick. Adding photos to any sight allow for the user to have a better experience. Sites without any form of graphics do not usually attract a lot of visitors. People get bored and they leave as soon as they can.
